Logic, Probability and its Applications:
A Workshop on the Occasion of World Logic Day

The modern foundations of probability theory are Kolmogorov's axioms, in which concepts from measure theory play a central role. There is, however, an alternative view, promoted by Jaynes and others, according to which probability theory is an extension of Boolean logic. On the occasion of the World Logic Day, we discuss different perspectives on probability theory in a workshop at the interface between philosophy and computer science.

Abstract: Probability theory is not only indispensable in the various sciences. It also plays an increasingly important role in almost all areas of systematic philosophy, such as epistemology, philosophy of science, metaphysics, ethics, political philosophy, social philosophy and philosophy of religion. In this lecture, some selected applications of probability theory from these areas will be discussed. In addition, the question of what is actually meant by probabilities will be addressed.
